Scott K. Burger

PARTNER

Scott represents both buyers and sellers in commercial real estate closings, including drafting purchase and sale contracts, evaluating title matters, and drafting closing documents. He assists small businesses and entrepreneurs with business formation, commercial lease reviews, and general legal advice for starting and running their businesses. Scott also works with craft breweries, wineries and distilleries in every stage of their life cycles, but focusing in particular on start-ups, including entity selection and formation, lease review and negotiation, trademark clearance and registration, and alcoholic beverage licensing/permitting.

Scott was raised in Okemos, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in history. He continued his education and obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University College of Law in East Lansing, Michigan. While at MSU Law, Scott was an Articles Editor of the Journal of International Law and the Treasurer of the Intellectual Property Law Society. His article entitled Eradication of a Secondary Infringer's Safe Havens: The Need for a Multilateral Treaty Addressing Secondary Liability in Copyright Law was published by the Journal following his graduation (18 Mich. St. J. Int'l L. 143 (2009).

Scott is licensed to practice law in North Carolina, a member of the North Carolina Bar Association (Real Property, Business, and Intellectual Property Sections), the Forsyth County Bar Association/31st Judicial District Bar and the American Bar Association. He is also a Certified Beer Server in the Cicerone Certification Program.

In his spare time, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Christa, their two daughters, Mia and Kylie, and their two dogs, Yost and Maizey. He spent Fall of 2013 and 2014 coaching JV Boys Soccer at Bishop McGuinness High School and volunteered as a youth soccer coach with the Winston-Salem Optimist Club. He also enjoys watching Michigan football and basketball, golfing, and playing soccer and other sports as much as his schedule (and knees) allows.
